    BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A request will be before the Battle Creek city commission this evening to name the intersection of Battle Creek Avenue and Capital Avenue SW “Jack Snyder Way.”Snyder was a 17-year-old Battle Creek Central High School senior who was killed in a carjacking in February 2023 after offering two teens a ride home. Then-14-year-old Justice Chimner pleaded guilty to felony murder, and 13-year-old Dewond Estes pleaded guilty to carjacking.

    BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A fire at a vacant Battle Creek church is under investigation for being suspicious. Firefighters responded to the call just after 6 a.m. Friday at 576 West Van Buren Street and saw smoke coming from the building. The fire was isolated to the center of the first floor and was quickly put out. Firefighters also checked the basement for fire damage. No one was injured.

    BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Battle Creek police have arrested a 24-year-old woman for a shooting that happened Wednesday afternoon on Goguac Street. Officers responded to a report that shots were fired in the 200 block of Goguac Street West just before 3:30 p.m.They learned that two 24-year-old women had driven to the home to visit a 17-year-old boy and found a third 24-year-old woman inside the house. The three women started to fight, and the fight spilled outside of the home.
