The State Finals for Wyoming High School Rodeo are Thursday through Saturday at the Johnson County Fairgrounds in Buffalo. There are two rounds of rodeo competition on Thursday and Friday at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. before the Qualifying Short Go round on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. The top 15 in each event, based on points, will compete in the final round on Saturday. The Reined Cow Horse competition was held in Sheridan on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Evanston’s Jordan Mendez has signed with the Central Wyoming College men’s basketball program. Mendez was a three-year starter and letter-winner at EHS. He received all-conference honors in the 4A West during the 2025 season. Jordan helped the Red Devils reach the 4A basketball state tournament each of the last two years in his prep career. Mendez averaged 11.6 points and shot 47 percent from the field in the 2024-25 season.

Too many miscues hurt Wyoming in its 68-28 loss to Nebraska last Friday night in the 14th annual 6-Man Shootout in Chadron, NE. The Cowboy State held a 22-14 lead with 6:53 left in the first half, but the Cornhusker State scored the next 54 points for their third straight victory in the series. Wyoming scored first, overcame an early turnover, and even had two goal-line stands in the first half.

Cody graduate Jarom Beardall is furthering his athletic career in two sports at the next level. He recently signed with Valley City State University for football and track and field. Beardall was an all-state defensive back for the Broncs last fall. He won the Class 3A state title in the long jump at the 2025 Wyoming High School Indoor Track State Championships back in March. Jarom participated in four events at the Wyoming High School Outdoor Track State Championships about two weeks ago.

For the third straight year, Team Nebraska was too much for Team Wyoming in the 14th annual Wyoming-Nebraska 6-Man Shootout all-star football game. Nebraska pulled away for a 68-28 victory. Wyoming had a 22-14 lead with just under seven minutes left in the second quarter. Nebraska scored the next 54 points of the game. It was their fifth win in the last six meetings of the series.
