The challenge
A retreat brief too niche for a standard media list
Kate has worked in PR for years, first in consumer and corporate PR at agencies and now running her own boutique consultancy for luxury travel and lifestyle brands, from hotels and members’ clubs to private jets. Before JournoFinder, finding new journalists meant Googling and going through magazines and newspapers by hand.
“Before JournoFinder I would go through magazines and newspapers by hand. It was super time consuming.”
One of Kate’s clients, a tourism body in West Wales, runs women-only wellness retreats for women over 50. They’re nature-led and crafty, with a distinctive brand. A list of 50 wellness writers wouldn’t do. She needed a handful of journalists who genuinely write about this kind of trip, and finding them by hand would have taken days.
The solution
Kate described the retreat, and JournoFinder built the shortlist in five minutes
Kate gave JournoFinder’s AI the retreat details, the itinerary and the profile of journalists who’d covered it before. She asked for ten journalists who fit, with an example of something each had written recently and their email address. The shortlist came back in about five minutes.
“It would have taken me days to do it. And JournoFinder’s AI Agent did it in about five minutes.”
The list matched every part of the brief. It found journalists who write for a 50-plus audience, cover nature and wellness, and had written for the same titles as the journalists the retreat had worked with before.
The results
A review, more coverage and journalists already lined up for next summer
The retreat sold so well there was only room for one journalist on the trip, who came along and reviewed the experience. Other journalists from the JournoFinder shortlist wrote about the retreat too.
The shortlist kept paying off after the retreat. Several of the journalists now have the brand on their radar and want to visit next summer, so the client goes into its next season with interested press already in place.
Every day
Simple enough that Kate uses it every day, and recommends it to other PRs
The big media databases Kate used in agencies were expensive and overcomplicated. They put so much data on each journalist that the day-to-day job of finding a few good people and their emails got buried.
In JournoFinder’s AI chat, the list fills in live as each journalist is found, so there’s no waiting for the whole search to finish. When time is tight, Kate exports what’s there and starts emailing while more names are still being added.
That simplicity is why Kate now recommends JournoFinder to other PRs. For the everyday work of getting emails and finding ten really good journalists, it’s the quicker way to do it.
“What stands out for me about JournoFinder is it’s very easy to use. It’s a lifesaver for any PR.”
