The Stowe development review board has struck down a long-discussed plan to demolish the Union Bank branch on Park Street and construct a new multi-level, mixed-use building in its place. The board’s decision, published last week, states the development, as proposed, would “result in an undue adverse effect on the scenic and natural beauty of the area and aesthetics” of Stowe village, and that it failed to comply with the construction standards required in the town’s historic areas.

After a dog attacked a young girl in Eden, the girl’s father petitioned the town to consider euthanizing the canine under the town’s animal control ordinance, but because the attack took place on the owner’s property, town officials said the were unable to order the animal’s death.
