The Vermont Supreme Court has upheld a Lamoille County Superior Court decision that found a Stowe resident owes Morrisville-based Bourne’s Energy a sizable amount in unpaid propane bills. In 2016, Emmanual Lemelson, a Greek Orthodox priest and hedge fund manager, signed a propane heating contract with Bourne’s to heat his Edson Hill Road house and pool, according to the decision passed down by the court.

Despite several interesting initiatives underway this summer, most of the Stowe Trails Partnership’s resources will be devoted to trail maintenance. “Part of what we do, which is the less sexy part of trails, is that we have to maintain everything,” the partnership’s executive director Kenzie Brunner said.

For nearly two years, there was no way to consistently purchase fresh produce in Johnson. The newly opened Johnson General Store changes that. Since the Sterling Market closed following the flood of July 2023 and the grocer that operated it decided not to reopen the location, which had been repeatedly inundated over the years at its vulnerable position at the confluence of the Lamoille and Gihon rivers, the town had been without a grocery store.

After starting out the century with a decade of rapid growth followed by a decade of slight decline, the Lamoille County labor force is inching back toward its former peak. No county in Vermont saw the level of workforce growth that Lamoille County has seen since 1990, according to Kevin Stapleton, assistant director of economic and labor information with the Department of Labor.
