Franklin County disburses $23K for solar eclipse prep

Franklin County is distributing $23,000 in occupancy tax money to towns, villages and organizations ahead of the April 8 total solar eclipse to assist them in preparing their infrastructure for the cosmic event. The money, approved on March 9 by Franklin County legislators, was managed by county Economic Development and Tourism Director Phil Hans.

SARANAC LAKE — The village of Saranac Lake is preparing to embark on a significant construction project on Main Street’s infrastructure this spring, which will involve closing the road to install new sewer and stormwater lines under the street and removing the bricks beneath the road to get a smoother pavement. A public informational meeting on the project is scheduled for Tuesday at 9 a.m. in the village board room on the second floor of the Harrietstown Town Hall.

SARANAC LAKE — A list of 85 suggestions was whittled down to five themes, which are now in the running to be the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival theme next year — “Music Legends,” “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” “Fire and Ice,” “Once Upon a Carnival” and “Steampunk.” The public will be able to put their support behind on their favorite in an Enterprise poll next week.

Sixth NY-21 candidate will actually run as independentSARANAC LAKE — Scott Phillip Lewis, a candidate for New York’s 21st Congressional District, initially announced on Thursday that he would run on the Democratic Party line in the June primary, but after it was revealed he is not a member of the Democratic Party and is ineligible to petition to be part of that primary election, he says he plans to circulate an independent petition to get on the November ballot on a different party line.
