SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - Tropical Storm Ernesto formed Monday afternoon in the Atlantic, just east of the Lesser Antilles. The WLOX First Alert Weather Team will continue to track Ernesto as it enters the Caribbean. Forecast models are in agreement that Ernesto will strengthen as it moves into a favorable environment near the Lesser Antilles and Puerto Rico this week. The forecast from the National Hurricane Center shows it becoming a hurricane by the end of the week.

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - The WLOX First Alert Weather Team is tracking a tropical wave east of the Lesser Antilles labeled Invest 98L. The National Hurricane Center gives it a high chance for development through the next 7 days as it moves towards the Caribbean Islands. Forecast models have been in agreement that this tropical wave could organize as it moves into a favorable environment near Puerto Rico or Hispaniola early next week. As of now, the concern level for South Mississippi is very low.

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - The WLOX First Alert Weather Team is tracking possible tropical development. A new depression or storm could form in the Atlantic by next week. The area being watched is just to the southwest of the Cape Verde islands. As of Thursday morning, satellite imagery there showed disorganized complexes of showers and thunderstorms.

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - Record high temperatures are expected to continue across South Mississippi this week as Debby meanders over the Carolinas. Another tropical wave in the Caribbean is being monitored for tropical development. However, the concern level for South Mississippi is very low as the steering pattern may take the wave into the southwest Gulf by early next week. Why so hot?

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - The WLOX First Alert Weather Team is tracking Hurricane Debby. The storm made landfall on Monday morning in the Big Bend of Florida. Impacts to remain east of South MississippiThankfully for South Mississippi, this system is expected to remain far enough to our east that we will not feel many impacts. The intensity forecast is more uncertain on days 3 through 5 depending on if the center moves back offshore or stays inland over the southeastern United States.

Impacts to remain east of South MississippiThankfully for South Mississippi, this system is expected to remain far enough to our east that we will not feel many impacts. However, the forecast track allows this system enough time over the Gulf of Mexico to strengthen into a hurricane by early Monday morning.
