I still remember standing at mid-field as USF Football celebrated its Boca Raton Bowl win over Syracuse. Picture this scene: The crowd rushes to the field to surround the team and catch a glimpse of the Boca Raton Bowl trophy. “Go Bulls” echoed throughout the stadium, and green and gold confetti was everywhere. I soaked it all in and three words entered my mind:“Cherish this moment.”Since May, I have served as sports editor for The Oracle.

As the USF softball season draws to a close, it seems the team has found some momentum. The Bulls (30-16, 9-9 AAC) have won six of its last seven games. In the last nine days, they have won their last two conference series and stunned the then-ranked No.9 Florida Gators on Wednesday. USF had yet to clinch a conference series prior to their sweep against Memphis on April 7. Here’s what’s worked for the Bulls during their most recent slate of games.

Time to break out the shovels. A groundbreaking ceremony for the on-campus stadium will be held during Homecoming Week, scheduled for Oct. 14-19, 2024, USF announced Thursday. The university said it would break ground in the fall of this year at a Board of Trustees meeting in December. The stadium is expected to be completed in March 2027, according to university documents. The document also stated an Athletics center, mainly for football and women’s lacrosse, is expected to open in 2026.

Bayron Matos’ journey through sports has been untraditional – and that’s putting it lightly. Not only is Matos an international student, but he’s also a dual-sport athlete. He played college basketball at USF before switching to football. Now – after training with the NFL’s International Player Program (IPP)– he might be ready for the next step, playing professional football. Matos, 23, hails from the Dominican Republic.

USF men’s basketball senior guard Chris Youngblood, the American Athletic Conference Player of the Year, entered the transfer portal on Monday. “It has been a great honor to play for the University of South Florida this past year,” Youngblood said on Instagram on Monday.
