    GREAT VALLEY, N.Y. (WKBW) — The National Weather Service survey team was out Tuesday morning checking out storm damage in Cattaraugus County and confirmed that an EF-1 tornado touched down in Great Valley. The tornado, with maximum winds of 110 MPH, touched down just after 5:30 p.m. and damaged homes, knocked down trees and power lines. There have been no reports of any injuries.

    At 5:36 p.m. on Monday the Buffalo National Weather Service Office issued a Tornado Warning for Northeast Cattaraugus County. At this time there was a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado. Doppler Radar detected rotation in this storm on Monday near Ashford. The storm moved to the northeast at 15 miles per hour impacting Franklinville and Great Valley. The Buffalo National Weather Service will send a survey team out Tuesday morning to check out the damage pattern.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — A cold front will move through Western New York on Monday afternoon. Rain showers will quickly change to snow showers and winds will increase on Monday evening. It will be breezy and cold overnight with low temperatures in the low 20s. A dusting of up to an inch of snow will accumulate across the area. The best chance for snow to stick will be over the higher elevations south and east of Buffalo. Snow showers will taper off early Tuesday afternoon with highs in the low 30s.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — A Flood Watch is in effect for all of Western New York from 1 p.m. Tuesday through 1 p.m. Thursday. A very strong area of low pressure will develop across the middle of the United States. This low will track toward the area, pushing milder air into Western New York on Tuesday. Temperatures on Tuesday will be in the 50s. Temperatures will stay near 50 Tuesday night and will get close to 60 on Wednesday. The warmer temperatures will lead to the melting of most of our snowpack.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Golden Snowball Award is a contest between Buffalo, Rochester, Albany, Syracuse, and Rochester. This year Syracuse is in the lead and Buffalo is in fourth place. The Buffalo Airport has had at least a Trace of snow on all but one day in 2025. February 11 was the only day it did not snow. Even with all these snowy days, our seasonal snow total is below average by 4.9 inches. As of February 20, 2025:Syracuse 101.0"Rochester 77.7"Binghamton 70.9"Buffalo 68.5"Albany 41.7"
