    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — A cold front will move through Western New York on Monday afternoon. Rain showers will quickly change to snow showers and winds will increase on Monday evening. It will be breezy and cold overnight with low temperatures in the low 20s. A dusting of up to an inch of snow will accumulate across the area. The best chance for snow to stick will be over the higher elevations south and east of Buffalo. Snow showers will taper off early Tuesday afternoon with highs in the low 30s.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — A Flood Watch is in effect for all of Western New York from 1 p.m. Tuesday through 1 p.m. Thursday. A very strong area of low pressure will develop across the middle of the United States. This low will track toward the area, pushing milder air into Western New York on Tuesday. Temperatures on Tuesday will be in the 50s. Temperatures will stay near 50 Tuesday night and will get close to 60 on Wednesday. The warmer temperatures will lead to the melting of most of our snowpack.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Golden Snowball Award is a contest between Buffalo, Rochester, Albany, Syracuse, and Rochester. This year Syracuse is in the lead and Buffalo is in fourth place. The Buffalo Airport has had at least a Trace of snow on all but one day in 2025. February 11 was the only day it did not snow. Even with all these snowy days, our seasonal snow total is below average by 4.9 inches. As of February 20, 2025:Syracuse 101.0"Rochester 77.7"Binghamton 70.9"Buffalo 68.5"Albany 41.7"

    Cold Weather Advisory from 10 p.m. Monday through 10 a.m. Tuesday for Erie, Genesee, Wyoming, Chautauqua, and Cattaraugus Counties. The advisory is for wind chill values that will be -20 degrees. Wind chills this cold could cause frostbite in less than 30 minutes. Most schools are off on Tuesday but some districts to go back to school. Keep an on eye on the closings here to see if your school is closed or delayed. Make sure you cover exposed skin if you are going to be outside.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The cold January has continued into February allowing Lake Erie's ice coverage to continue to expand. The lake now has 91 percent ice coverage. That is the highest amount of ice since January 31, 2022, when it was at 94 percent. Last year Lake Erie's peak ice-coverage occurred on January 22 at 35.7 percent. In 2023 the peak ice-coverage occurred on February 5 at 40.2 percent. Check out the satellite imagery above and you can see open water on the eastern end of Lake Erie.
