The festival, which kicked-off on March 4 and kept on rolling until March 13, sang its swan song last Sunday as a selection of festival winners performed in the gala concert at the Shell Theatre. “It was a great success, and it didn’t even run over time,” said president of the music festival association, Jennifer Abram.

Cowiche — A structure fire on Wednesday night in Cowiche happened at a fruit warehouse. The fire broke out on the 1100 block of Livengood Road at what appears to be an apple storage facility. Multiple fire departments responded to the fire including Sunnyside, West Valley, Naches, and West Benton fire-rescue. Currently there is no information on any casualties or structural damage. Union Gap — Firefighters were called to a Union Gap address on South 3rd Street around 1:00 AM Tuesday morning after reports of a structure fire and a person with mobility issues, trapped in the basement. Firefighters were able to reach the basement despite the heavy smoke and flames engulfing the lower part of the building. Ultimately rescuing the man who was trapped downstairs. He was treated for smoke inhalation and burns by medics on site, before being transported to Yakima Memorial Hospital.

KIMA — Washington state's sex offender policy board is recommending stricter punishments for those who commit first- and second-degree rape. These recommendations are a part of the 33-sex offense changes that the legislature asked for the board to do. One of their recommendations was to move second degree rape from a level 11 to a level 14 offense.
