Sammie Coates, a former NFL receiver, has been hired as the new football coach at Columbia (Huntsville, Ala.) as the program looks to snap the longest losing streak in high school football history at 91 games. Columbia, which hasn't won since 2015, ended the 2024 season with a 21-14 loss to Hazel Green in one of the closest games during the 10-year streak. The Eagles are currently going through spring drills.

The University Interscholastic League, the governing body for Texas high school sports, approved expanded use of technology for football teams Thursday. Beginning next season, teams are allowed to use "wearable technology" to communicate with players for in-game play calling. The communication can only come from the coaching booth or press box and is only via text messaging with no audio allowed, according to media reports.

Seven MaxPreps All-Americans will be among 19 players competing for a spot on the USA Volleyball U19 team with a chance to participate at the 2025 FIVB Women's U21 World Championships this summer. The U19s are being pressed into service from Aug. 5-18 in Surabaya, Indonesia, for the U21 team as the tournament conflicts with the NCAA season. It's the second time the younger squad has stepped in as the U19s placed sixth in the 2023 World Championships.
