    NEW LONDON — Supporters of the West Rusk CCISD $23 million bond proposal can rejoice as results from the May 3 election show that the bond has finally passed. After voters shot down the bond proposal in the May and November 2024 election cycles, board members, citizens and WRCCISD officials initiated a campaign to inform eligible voters of the district’s desperate need for the new elementary facilities to be funded by the bond.

    An Overton man remains in custody at the Rusk County Jail Complex on charges of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, following an April 29 outcry to an investigator with the Rusk County Sheriffs Office. Joshua Christian Faye, a 36-year-old Overton man, was arrested Tuesday after the 13-year-old victim, accompanied by her mother, Danielle Faye, filed a RCSO report alleging that her father had come into her room on the morning of March 4 and performed sexual acts upon her person.

    Crowds gathered on the lawn of the Rusk County Courthouse to observe the National Day of Prayer with sweet song, touching invocation and a sermon fit for the mount. As the courthouse lawn filled with prayer minded participants and the typical menagerie of adorable entertainers, Rusk County Judge Joel Hale welcomed the crowd to the annual event. "I want to welcome and thank all of you for coming today to this National Day of Prayer," Hale said.
