A suspected internet fraudster, who allegedly killed an operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) during an arrest operation in Anambra, has been detained, TheCable reports. An official of the anti-graft agency told TheCable that the suspect opened fire on the EFCC operatives during an operation on Friday, killing an operative in the process and injuring another.

Dapo Abiodun, the governor of Ogun state, has approved the recruitment of 1,000 additional personnel for the Ogun state Security Network Agency, also known as the Amotekun corps. The governor announced the approval on Saturday in Sagamu during the passing-out parade of 690 newly recruited Amotekun officers. Abiodun emphasized that the initiative reflects his administration’s commitment to enhancing security and public safety through well-trained personnel.

A petrol tanker has exploded around Dikko junction in Gurara LGA of Niger state, resulting in casualties. On Saturday, some residents were said to have been burnt to death with several others sustaining varying degrees of injuries while scooping petrol after the tanker fell. Reacting to the tragedy, Umar Bago, governor of Niger, in a statement by Bologi Ibrahim, his spokesperson, expressed shock over the explosion, describing it as “worrisome, heartbreaking and unfortunate”.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 29 suspected internet fraudsters in Benin, Edo state capital. The anti-graft agency announced the arrest in a statement shared on its X account on Friday. The EFCC said the suspects were taken into custody after operatives acted on credible intelligence. The suspects were said to have been nabbed at an apartment used as a “yahoo academy or training school” for internet-related fraud and other fraudulent activities.
