Thanks to support from Youth Music’s Incubator fund, YSWN has been able to offer a series of paid traineeship roles to help women and people of minority gender aged 18–25 take a first step into the audio industry. Hosted by AiAI Studios, BeSound Studios, Rare Tone Mastering, PitStop Productions and Club Haus Studios, the placements have given the trainees valuable skills in everything from film sound design and podcast editing to vinyl mastering and games audio.

A modular synth alchemist, she sculpts powerful narratively-driven journeys, moving between drone, ambient and techno, with a sonic palette of glitches, wild texture and driving rhythms. As part of our Changing Gear programme, we’re looking for three emerging women or minority gender music creators based in Yorkshire and the Humber to compose and perform new electronic pieces inspired by the ideas and legacy of pioneering composer Daphne Oram and to celebrate the 100th anniversary of her birth. Each selected creator will receive a fee of £1,400, mentoring from past Oram Awards winners and the chance to develop their artistic voice by experimenting with analogue music kit.
