LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - An inmate who was serving time for first- and third-degree sexual assault of a child died at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution on Wednesday. Nicholas Bailey, 78, of Lincoln began his sentence on May 16, 2016. He was serving 25 to 45 years out of Lancaster County. The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services has not determined the cause of death, but they confirmed that Bailey was being treated for a medical condition.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Lincoln Police are investigating after a store clerk was hit by a car during an argument with a customer on Sunday. Officers were dispatched to the Super C near 27th and Superior streets around 9:40 p.m. for a disturbance. Upon arrival, they learned that someone had tried to run over a store clerk with a vehicle in the parking lot. The 27-year-old victim told officers he’d gotten into an argument with a customer driving a Nissan Altima.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A Michigan man was arrested on Friday after trying to meet with an undercover officer he believed was a 14-year-old girl in Lincoln, according to police. The Lincoln Police Department’s Special Victims Unit arrested 44-year-old Brad Strickland of Troy, Michigan at a hotel near 56th and R streets. Strickland, using an alias, began messaging an undercover investigator who was posing as a 14-year-old girl on social media on May 27.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A bill aimed at redefining hemp in Nebraska was passed over Friday after failing to gain enough support from lawmakers. The final reading of LB 316, introduced by Sen. Kathleen Kauth of Omaha, was the last item on the agenda for the day. Lawmakers debated the bill for about two hours before Speaker of the Legislature John Arch passed over it. Sen. Brian Hardin of Gering told 10/11 this happened because Sen. Kauth didn’t have enough votes to invoke closure.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The Nebraska Supreme Court released a ruling on Friday, affirming the Saline County District Court’s order denying Aubrey Trail’s request to be relieved from death row. In 2021, a three-judge panel sentenced Trail to death for the 2017 murder of 24-year-old Sydney Loofe, whose dismembered body was found in Clay County. He was ultimately found guilty of first-degree murder.
