LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A bill aimed at redefining hemp in Nebraska was passed over Friday after failing to gain enough support from lawmakers. The final reading of LB 316, introduced by Sen. Kathleen Kauth of Omaha, was the last item on the agenda for the day. Lawmakers debated the bill for about two hours before Speaker of the Legislature John Arch passed over it. Sen. Brian Hardin of Gering told 10/11 this happened because Sen. Kauth didn’t have enough votes to invoke closure.

NORTH BEND, Neb. (KOLN) - A fast-moving EF-1 tornado touched down near McGinns Lake just outside of North Bend Monday evening, bringing winds estimated at 100 miles per hour and leaving behind a path of destruction in Dodge County. The National Weather Service confirmed Tuesday that the tornado struck around 5:30 p.m., part of a turbulent day that saw 32 severe thunderstorm warnings and five tornado warnings issued across Nebraska.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - After voters overwhelmingly approved medical marijuana last year, Attorney General Mike Hilgers was joined by sheriffs across Nebraska on Wednesday to speak in opposition of a proposal that would implement regulations for the drug. As it stands now, Initiative 437 made medical marijuana legal in Nebraska, stating that patients can have up to five ounces of cannabis for medical purposes with a healthcare practitioner’s written recommendation.
