Warning of 'tight' electricity generation levels amid cold snap

A fault at a gas field in the North Island sparked low generation warnings by Transpower, says an electricity company. The national grid operator issued two "low residual" customer advice notices on Tuesday, explaining that electricity generation was "tight" amid further sub-zero temperatures around parts of the country. After all of the change and uncertainty it dealt with this offseason, Vanderbilt Football entered the new year with a resounding bang, upsetting Virginia Tech 34-27 in overtime. It was a team win, but quarterback Diego Pavia was undoubtedly the star of the show, winning SEC Offensive Player of the Week. Vanderbilt was also named the Cheez-It Team Of the Week for its stunning upset. Considering all of this, Lea took the podium with quite the fanfare.

There are worries motorists may disregard a new 50km/h speed limit on a major highway in the Mackenzie Basin that has been the site of several serious crashes, NZTA Waka Kotahi says. The temporary speed limit was introduced yesterday along a section of State Highway 8's Tekapo-Twizel highway for the remainder of the winter period. The move follows a string of serious crashes along the same stretch of road in a matter of days, leaving a total of 24 people injured.
