MARIETTA – The Walton girls did not need any individual or relay wins to claim their eighth straight title Saturday in the Cobb County championships at Mountain View Aquatic Center. The Raiders, who scored 1,024 points, used their depth to place many swimmers high in the top two heats going into the finals. Lassiter, which had more success both individually and in the relays, settled for runner-up with 951 points. Pope (808) was third, followed by Harrison (795) and Wheeler (571).

MARIETTA – Sprayberry had every reason to be frustrated when the first half finally expired Friday night, especially after being held scoreless by Newnan and getting flagged eight times for 80 yards. During those 20 minutes in the locker room, the Yellow Jackets decided to put aside the issues and focus on the things that got them to the second round of the Class AAAAAA state tournament.

A win over Newnan on Friday in the second round of the Class AAAAA state playoffs would give Sprayberry 11 wins on the season, which would be a first in the program's 68-year history. It has already been a successful season for the Yellow Jackets. The first region title since 2008, and the first home playoff victory in 42 years last week with the 27-14 win over Lanier, however they want more. Should Sprayberry win, it will advance to the state quarterfinals for the first time since 1982.
