    Being made redundant is ‘to be able to be omitted without loss of meaning or function’. Fuck! That’s a tough label to put on someone or something. In a world where people are being made redundant every day, and business models are fast becoming redundant with the latest ‘category killer’, it would be handy to be able to inoculate oneself against such an outcome.

    The ethics of advertising is a funny one.  According to Gallop, advertising is the fourth least trusted industry in the world (one above used car salesmen), and going backwards. However, it’s rarely discussed by the industry itself. It reminds me that back in the day as a psychologist, we were never really allowed to refer to ourselves as being in the behaviour change business. It was easier to ignore the fact we were paid to try and change people’s behaviour rather than deal with the ethics of it.

    So, a year ago I wrote an article saying that everyone should do their best to get back to the office, for their own benefit, not their employer. It was the most commented on story, and most read opinion piece on Mumbrella in 2022, and fair to say not everyone agreed with me. How are things going a year on? How’s it being back in the office? Truth be told, I couldn’t get an Uber this morning – ‘currently not servicing your area’ in the inner city at peak hour! – and 13cabs wasn’t up to it either.
