A few weekends ago I visited Puerto Rico for the first time since 2007. On my first visit to the American territory, I was captivated with the culture—even if the trip was brief. During this trip, I had the time and opportunity to explore even more of Puerto Rican culture and I spent a lot of time just wandering. Like any Caribbean island, the culture of Puerto Rico is rich. There’s a color and vibrancy not just in the place, but in the people.

When I lived in Boston, one of my favorite things to do during the summer was visit the Cape. With the two-hour drive down from Boston, it was always an easy day trip—even if there was lots of traffic. If you’re not from the northeast, you might be surprised to learn that Cape Cod is actually a pretty big area. And the two hour drive from Boston just gets you to the very beginning of the Cape. Anything further and you’re adding more and more time to the drive.

When people ask me where I’m from, I like to say I’m from Boston via Texas. Because despite my Texas roots I always identified with Boston in the seven years I lived there. So when I revisited Boston last year after nearly 2.5 years away, I was pretty excited to be “home.” And whenever I go home, the trip is almost always centered around food…glorious food!So on my most recent visit I went to some of my favorite restaurants in Boston—sampling and eating everything from cannolis to clam chowder.
