They were pleased with the opportunities they generated over the first two games of these Eastern Conference semifinals against the Knicks, and they were confident the struggles would not persist. “It was really just being more confident, and letting it fly,” guard Payton Pritchard said.

NEW YORK — For the third consecutive game in this Eastern Conference semifinal, the Celtics roared to a 20-point lead against the Knicks. But this time, there would be no collapse. Game 4 will be played at Madison Square Garden on Monday night.

With TD Garden rumbling and the Knicks reeling, the first 2½ quarters of Game 1 of this Eastern Conference semifinal went just about as expected Monday. The Celtics raced to a 20-point lead and appeared poised to keep charging. Instead, the Knicks roared back with an improbable rally and eventually stunned Boston, 108-105, in overtime when Mikal Bridges ripped the ball away from Jaylen Brown on the final possession. Game 2 will be played Wednesday.
