Jeff Levering calls it “poetic” that his playing career peaked in the same state that his MLB broadcasting career began. Despite winning the 2003 D-III World Series in Grand Chute, Wisconsin, as a designated hitter with California’s Chapman University, Levering knew he didn’t have a future as a player. But much like a player, the Sacramento native worked his way through the minors as a broadcaster for a decade before making it to Milwaukee’s major league radio team in 2015.

Jeff Levering pretty much knew his broadcast partner of 10 years would never call another game after his Milwaukee Brewers blew a late lead in a deciding Oct. 3 wild card game to the New York Mets. A 33-foot boat has been stuck along the shore between McKinley and Bradford beaches since Oct. 13. The wet sand around its keel and propeller has foiled salvage attempts, as has lake ice. The boat – officially named Deep Thought but also known as Milwaukee’s S.S. Minnow – will likely remain immobilized until spring. It’s owned by a Mississippi couple, Richard and Sherry Wells, who told local reporters that they ran out of gas when they were caught in a storm.

Let’s take some time to remember just one moment from each of the 12 seasons when he suited up for the Bucks, from hitting an oft-forgotten but somehow also unforgettable buzzer-beater game-winner on coach Jason Kidd’s birthday, to multiple MJ-like playoff performances. There was a time when Middleton was probably the best on the Bucks. It was his second season in the NBA and well-before Giannis came into his own. Within Middleton’s first two-dozen games with the Deer, his potential shone through.
