After a thorough content analysis, Lobo identified the need for a quality play curriculum. She reviewed thousands of play activity recommendations available to parents, including from vetted sources such as the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Centers for Disease Control. “Most play activities recommended were not deep or were poor quality,” Lobo said.

UD assistant professor Kyle Davis (center) and doctoral candidate Bhoktear Khan (center right) recently had a paper published in Sciences Advances that focuses on cropland expansion in Nigeria. Davis and Khan traveled to Nigeria to conduct fieldwork in 2024. During that time, they visited farmers' fields and interviewed farmers about their farming practices. It’s hard to believe that we are already talking about the first freeze of fall, but as the saying goes “time flies by.” The past week has given us a taste of what is yet to come with lows dipping in the low 40’s at night and highs still in the mid to upper 70’s. Following the shift to a warmer climate across Kentucky over the past decade, the average first freeze dates have been pushed back in the fall season.

A major concern of most producers after a weather event like we had last week is always down trees either in pastures or across fence rows. Most are concerned about safety of the livestock and making sure they don’t escape, but another concern should be possible poisoning. My big species of concern would be black cherry. Black cherry trees grow all across LaRue county mostly in pastures and fencerows.
