What does a 1970s-era lesbian separatist slogan have to do with the state of California cannabis? More than you might think. I’m talking about “The future is female,” which, the interwebs will tell you was coined by workers at New York’s Labyris bookstore in the early 1970s, became mainstream in the 2010s and then echoed memorably in a video statement presented by former Democratic presidential candidate Hilary Clinton to a women’s conference in February 2017.
