    Amoo Vivian knows what it means to grow up with nothing. Born and raised in the slums of Ile-Ife, she faced poverty and societal neglect that left deep scars on her childhood. Her father, with three wives, struggled with alcoholism and failed to provide for his family. Vivian’s mother, the third wife, shouldered the burden of raising her children, often working menial jobs to keep them afloat. Living in the slums meant being surrounded by thugs, drug dealers, and child predators.

    Ibadan, Nigeria: As a secondary school student in  Ibadan, Nigeria, Fapohunda Jude was once frustrated and felt dejected. “It all started when I wrote my first West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) …and I did not get a good result,” he said. Jude felt worthless and like a disappointment; An ‘A’ student and a  senior prefect, he burgled under  the pressure of not wanting to disappoint his parents. Jude did not seek help.

    Oguntade Nafisat, an HND2 student of Accountancy at Federal Polytechnic, Ede, stated that during her ND1 days, her classes used to be held on the first floor of the department. Consequently, she always had to wait for someone to help her with her wheelchair up the stairs, due to her mobility impairment. Nafisat mentioned that during that time, she often experienced a lot of backaches. She explained that in her hostel, there are too many steps, and she always has to ask people for assistance.

    Claim: On Wednesday, August 21st, a news story circulated through various newsrooms across Nigeria that a student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) was raped by a bike man on Friday, July 6th, 2024 . The information was obtained from the Osun State Police Command’s spokesperson, Mrs. Yemisi Opalola, while parading suspects at the state police headquarters. Some of the newsrooms that published the news include, The Hope Newspaper, Osun Defenders, among others.
