After 15 months into the bloody war, Israel and Hamas have finally ironed out a delayed but much awaited ceasefire and hostage release deal brokered by Qatar, Egypt and the United States (US), after months of negotiations. The Israeli cabinet approved the deal on January 18, paving the way for the return of hostages and bringing a halt to 15 months of conflict that have devastated the Gaza strip. Twenty-four ministers voted in favour of the deal and eight opposed.

Gaza (Quds News Network)- The United Nations has issued a reminder that more than two million people are now trapped in the Gaza Strip with little access to food and no access to safe drinking water, as Israel’s genocidal war enters its 419th day. “Food is scarce, and famine is imminent. Most of Gaza’s water supply is unsafe to drink. With nowhere to go, families are living in abandoned homes or out in the open,” the UN said. Nowhere in Gaza is safe.

On November 5, 2024, the Supreme Court (SC) declared the constitutional validity of the Uttar Pradesh Board of Madarsa Education Act, 2004, with the exception of the sections permitting the Board to issue higher degrees such as Kamil (UG level) and Fazil (PG level). A three-judge bench led by Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud ruled that issuing these degrees violated the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, 1956, rendering it unconstitutional.
