    (Helen)- The 51st Helen to the Atlantic Hot Air Balloon Race & Festival begins Thursday and runs through Saturday in Helen. With two distinctions, Helen, Georgia, carries the banner for the South’s oldest balloon race and the United States’ only long-distance balloon race. All, of course, is contingent upon the weather conditions. This year marks the 51st year for the Helen to the Atlantic Balloon & Festival in Helen, Georgia.

    (Cleveland)- White County Elections Supervisor Amie Veater reports that the White County Elections Board met Tuesday and certified the May 21 General Primary/Nonpartisan Election results. The Official & Complete Election Summary shows 20.35 percent of White County voters 21,374 registered voters cast ballots in the primary, for a total of 4,349 votes cast. That total includes absentee by mail, advance voting, and those ballots cast on Election Day.

    Mrs. Kathleen Carder Miller Acrey, age 89, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2024. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Gainesville. The family will receive friends at Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home on Saturday, May 25, 2024 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM. A complete obituary will be published soon.

    Glenn Milton Porter, age 79, of Alto, Georgia passed away on Monday, May 20, 2024. Mr. Porter was born on September 22, 1944 in Hall County, Georgia to the late Glenn Rufus Porter and Louise Coker Porter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Mangrum, Kathy Lovell, Patricia Porter; brothers, Ronnie Porter, and Alfred Porter. Mr. Porter was of the Christian Faith. Glenn had worked for Orbit Manufacturing for a number of years as a sewing machine Mechanic.
