LAS ANIMAS COUNTY, Colo. (KOAA) — A rock slide has closed a small county road north of Highway 12 in Las Animas County on Friday. We first learned about the rock slide after seeing a post from Davena Cisneros, who ran into the aftermath of the slide on their morning commute to school on Friday. The closure is along Wet Canon Road (County Road 31.9) about 5 miles from Highway 12, according to Las Animas County Emergency Management. The map below shows an approximate location of the slide.

COLORADO SPRINGS — The Colorado Springs Police Department is asking for your help in locating a missing man, who they say suffers from dementia. Police say that 87-year-old Sixto Colon was last seen on Thursday, May 8, around 5:30 p.m. bear 11000 Rill Point. Colon is described as a Hispanic male who is about 6 feet two inches tall, around 200 pounds, and was last seen wearing blue jeans, a blue flannel shirt, gray house shoes, and two wrist watches.

EL PASO COUNTY — Thursday morning, more than 50 veterans from across Southern Colorado will take off on the honor flight of Southern Colorado. The group of World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam heroes will embark on a three-day, all-expense-paid trip to our nation's capital to see the monuments built in their honor.

EL PASO COUNTY — Heavy snow is beginning to impact the Highway 24 drive between Colorado Springs and Woodland Park. The Colorado Department of Transportation says that the eastbound lanes of Highway 24 are closed at Woodland Avenue and Lucky 4 Road (Cascade-Chipita Park) from Mile Point 289 to Mile Point 290. Traffic cameras in the area show the road to be almost covered by snow just before 1:00 p.m. As of 1:11 p.m. traffic cameras show some traffic moving through the area.

COLORADO — President Donald Trump is calling for the release of a former Mesa County Clerk who was sentenced to nine years in prison. Tina Peters was convicted by a jury in August of 2024, of three counts of attempting to influence a public servant, one count of conspiracy to commit criminal impersonations, first-degree official misconduct, violation of duty, and failing to comply with secretary of state.
