As the seasons change so do the foods we eat, and registered dietician Lisa Valente joined the Morning Brew Crew to discuss how important it is to shop seasonally as farmers’ inventories change. Valente said eating seasonally can be a great way to support local farmers while getting food that is more nutritious because it’s picked at peak ripeness and it’s not being shipped very far.

A difficult budget year is on the way for Barre and Montpelier, as both communities are still recovering and feeling the effects of last summer’s flooding. Voters will decide on those budgets for Town Meeting Day, even though Barre has already delayed its budget vote. Barre and Montpelier were both devastated by the same flood, but there’s a stark difference in how the flood has constricted their budgets.

White River Junction, VT – The United States Postal Service is considering moving its mail sorting efforts in White River Junction to a bigger facility in Hartford, Connecticut. This was first reported by the Valley News last week, and some people are now concerned about that potential change causing delays in Vermonters getting their mail.

Montpelier, VT- The Vermont Senate did not have enough votes to override Gov. Phil Scott’s veto of a bill that would have given the state’s bottle redemption system its first update since the 1970s. Seventeen senators voted to override the veto, which falls just short of the twenty required for the override to succeed.
