The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo made an “extra special” Mother’s Day announcement this year. Asha, the zoo’s 32-year-old critically endangered Western lowland gorilla, is pregnant, the zoo said in a news release. This will be Asha’s third baby, but will it be the first for dad, Goma, according to the zoo. Asha’s two other children live in zoos outside of Colorado. She is due sometime between mid-May and the end of July.

A storm system brought rain and snow to Colorado Springs and the surrounding areas Tuesday. According to snowfall reports from the National Weather Service in Pueblo, parts of Colorado Springs saw less than 2 inches of snow, whereas cities to the north and west reported double that amount.

A motorcyclist has died following a crash at the intersection of Interstate 25 and Bijou Street Thursday evening, according to a blotter item from the Colorado Springs Police Department. At 4:35 p.m., police were called the intersection of I-25 and West Bijou Street for a crash involving a vehicle and a motorcycle.

The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo has bid farewell to another one of its furry family members this month. In a new release, the zoo announced that Mahali, a "legendary" 22-year-old reticulated giraffe, was euthanized Thursday due to age-related decline in health. Born at the zoo in May 2003, Mahali was the zoo's oldest male giraffe, and the second oldest male reticulated giraffe in an Association of Zoos and Aquariums facility in the U.S., according to the release.

Roxie was an icon, as the Zoo’s longest living resident. She was born at the Zoo in 1976, and she was a constant on the mountain for generations of staff and visitors ever since. As the fifth oldest Western lowland gorilla in Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) human care in the U.S., and the third oldest female, she was well known throughout the gorilla care community.

A tractor-trailer scooped out an approximately 300-pound boulder and dragged it for several blocks, according to a from the Colorado Springs Police Department. At 10:30 a.m., the police department received a call for service in the area of East Fountain Boulevard and South Weber Street on reports of a traffic collision. After investigating, officers found that a tractor-trailer had "scooped out" a landscaping boulder and continued driving, according to officials.
