    The Metropolitan Transit Authority unveiled new details Monday on its MetroNow initiative, the seeming replacement for the voter-approved MetroNext plan. MetroNow first was announced as part of budget discussions for fiscal 2025 when the agency announced it would be investing $33.6 million of its operating budget and $173.8 million of its capital budget toward initiatives that focus on the customer experience. At the same time, the agency announced cutbacks in plans associated with MetroNext.

    Winter has come, and with it comes the possibility of freezing weather. The National Weather Service forecasts that frigid temperatures with an increasing possibility of snow or sleet could hit the Houston area early this week. With cold weather comes the possibility for a hard freeze, which the National Weather Service considers a possibility on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. NWS issued a Winter Storm Watch starting 6 p.m. Monday extending into Tuesday afternoon for the region.

    Cars whizzed by and pedestrians slowly ambled by on the sidewalk. Nearby, two horse-mounted police officers were having a conversation as they meandered down Polk Street. For everyone, it was business as usual on a quiet local road in Houston. Except for one glaring mistake: A posted sign between St. Emanuel and Hutchins streets indicated the speed limit was 60 mph. Across the street, another speed limit sign shows the actual limit: 30 mph.
