    A Stroud-based green energy company says it has opened Britain's first fully plant-based workplace canteen for its staff. Ecotricity said the decision to offer a plant-only menu within its offices was part of ambitions to help combat climate change, protect nature and promote healthy eating. The company, which is owned by green entrepreneur Dale Vince, plans to expand the menu to include breakfast options.

    (Alliance News) - The end of 2024 saw the fastest decline in candidates being placed into permanent jobs in more than a year, new research suggests. Recruiters reported growing 'cost consciousness' by firms in the wake of the rise in employee national insurance contributions. There was also a decline in temporary jobs last month, according to a survey of 400 agencies by the Recruitment & Employment Confederation.

    South Africa has regained its position as the best value long-haul holiday destination for UK travellers, according to a new report. Local price falls and the weakening of the South African rand have brought costs down for UK visitors by 12% since autumn 2023, Post Office Travel Money said. This makes Cape Town the best value out of 32 resorts and cities analysed in the annual study for the first time since 2018.

    Members of one of the unions involved in long-running strikes by Job Centre security guards have accepted a pay offer. Members of the GMB voted in favour by 2-1 on a turnout of 91%. The workers, employed by G4S, have taken a series of strikes in recent months in Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) offices. A G4S spokesperson said: “We’re pleased that our pay offer has been accepted.
