BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Self-defense is an important skill to know when it comes to protecting yourself. The Baton Rouge Police Department is offering an Equalizer Women's Self-Defense classes starting Monday, March 18. It's happening at the Baton Rouge Police Department Training Academy, located at 9000 Airline Hwy. The class times are from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. for each session.

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - City officials celebrated the grand opening of a new affordable workforce housing development in Mid City on Thursday, March 14. The development, named Government Corridor, will include 31 apartments within 34 single and duplex-style homes near Government Street. A large portion of the project was paid for with federal low-income housing tax credits. "Low-income families deserve a quality standard of living," said LHC Executive Director Marjorianna Willman.

BAKER, La. (WAFB) - You can still see the work that the needs to be done inside Baker High School. The rebuilding of the school comes after it was deemed unusable after the flood of 2016. After eight years of being housed at the middle school's campus, the new high school is only months away from welcoming back students and staff. "There's some community pride, parental pride, getting back and having that school running again," said Superintendent J.T. Stroder.

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Louisiana State Police announced the graduation of its 103rd Cadet Class, as 33 cadets have completed their journey to becoming a Louisiana State Trooper. The Louisiana State Police Training Academy and the Baton Rouge Community College Performing Arts Theater hosted the graduation ceremony on Friday, March 8th. On September 24, 2024, 33 from across the state began their 24-week journey through the Louisiana State Police Training Academy.

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - A resident is sounding the alarm on an unfinished repair near her neighborhood that could put the public in danger. "We're at the bottom of a hill. There is a lot of rain and water that washes this way. Water will take the path of least resistance," said Danna Spayde. Spayde lives near Dawson's Creek. She says she's concerned about an unfinished repair on Hundred Oaks Avenue. "It needs to be done now," continued Spayde.
