The Times-Picayune | The New Orleans Advocate

The Times-Picayune is a historic American newspaper that has been serving New Orleans, Louisiana, since January 25, 1837. It was formed from the merger of The Picayune and the Times-Democrat in 1914. For many years, it was published daily until October 2012, when it shifted to a schedule of Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday editions. However, due to stiff competition from The Advocate's New Orleans edition, which aimed to capitalize on the reduced publishing frequency, the Times-Picayune returned to daily publication in 2014. The newspaper, along with the NOLA.com website, operates under the NOLA Media Group, which is part of Advance Publications and its subsidiary, Advance Local. In May 2019, the paper was sold to the owners of The Advocate, leading to the termination of its entire staff.

Over three decades after Duriel Harris left the Dallas Cowboys, the Texas native settled in Acadiana and became a cowboy in his own right. The former wide receiver bought two dozen Black Angus heifers in 2016, and since then, his Ville Platte operation has only grown. Last year, Harris Cattle Company had its best year yet, grossing nearly $400,000. His success is largely thanks to a market niche he found: a federal program that pays for schools to source food from local farms.
