All elections are a big deal, but the 2024 election feels huge. It includes a heated presidential race. Here in Oakland, we have two recalls on the ballot that could remove our mayor and the county district attorney. But something else big is happening this year: 16- and 17-year-olds will have a real say in who gets elected to the Oakland Unified School District board. Four years ago, Oakland voters approved a measure lowering the voting age for school board elections.
