Almost 100 tonnes of illegal meat was seized at the Port of Dover last year, new data has revealed. Pork, lamb, beef and chicken were among the 98,958kg of meat confiscated in 868 separate seizures at the port in 2024 – more than 75% up on the 56,089kg seized in 2023. Dover Port Health Authority raised concerns over diseased meat getting into the food chain as a result.

Germany has said it will tighten its law to make it easier to prosecute those helping to smuggle migrants to the UK, as part of a new plan agreed between the two countries. Currently facilitating people-smuggling is not technically illegal in Germany if it is to a third country outside the EU - which, following Brexit, includes the UK. Under the new agreement the Home Office says Germany has pledged to make the activity a clear criminal offence.

Drivers have spoken out about the cost of car crime as figures show more than one million motor vehicle theft offences have been recorded in England and Wales in a decade. One victim who was targeted by a masked gang described how "they tip-toed in and within 60 seconds the car was open, started and driving out".
