    PORTLAND, Ore. — A known leader of Portland's 18th Street Gang was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison Friday for his role in local drug trafficking conspiracy and for possessing a weapon while in prison, prosecutors said. Noah Herrera, 26, was second-in-command and regularly worked with the gang's local leader, Gustavo Torres-Mendez, who was sentenced in May 2024 to nearly 14 years in federal prison, according to court documents.

    PORTLAND, Ore. — Around 26 goats, 14 chickens and five sheep were rescued from a home in Clark County, with the owner now facing 45 counts of animal cruelty charges. In May 2023, Clark County said it started to receive complaints about several goats that appeared malnourished and were living in poor condition. Over time, conditions reportedly worsened, while the number of animals increased at the property, the county said.

    PORTLAND, Ore. — A man was sentenced to 7 1/2 years in prison Thursday for shooting at a person after being told to stop harassing a flock of peacocks wandering in Southeast Portland. According to prosecutors, Dylan Levi Rhoads and another person were harassing peacocks that are known to roam a Southeast Portland neighborhood on Sept. 29, 2023. A resident who lives across the street witnessed this and asked Rhoads to stop.

    PORTLAND, Ore. — Pharmacy chain Rite Aid is set to close nearly 50 stores across the U.S., including four in Oregon, as it enters its second bankruptcy. The popular drugstore chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last Monday as it faces continued financial struggles. The chain had previously filed for bankruptcy in 2023 and downsized the company from over 2,300 stores to about 1,200.
