PORTLAND, Ore. — The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has authorized the use of federal funds to help with firefighting costs for an approximately 470-acre wildfire burning in southern Oregon. The Upper Applegate Fire was first reported on Wednesday in Applegate, an unincorporated community in Jackson County. The fire quickly grew to around 350 acres that same day. Level 1, 2, and 3 evacuations were issued for several parts in the area.

Based on trademark applications filed Wednesday, the Women's National Basketball Association is potentially looking to reprise the "Portland Fire" as the league's 15th team. PORTLAND, Ore. — A man was arrested for pointing a "powerful laser" at federal officers Wednesday night outside U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Portland. Surveillance image shows the man, 22, wearing a ballistic vest and gas mask, shining a green laser. This occurred around 8:24 p.m., and police took him into custody about three hours later without incident, Portland police said.
