SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WACH) — An 11-year-old is dead after a man entered a home and opened fire, according to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office. 80-year-old Reuben Leonard has been charged with murder. Coroner Robbie Baker identified the victim as 11-year-old Ashley McFarland. Coroner Baker also identified 76-year-old Felicia Leonard as the victim in the incident. Authorities say around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, deputies received reports of a shooting at 1130 Floyd Drive.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) - One day after the release of a final report on the investigation into a $1.8B accounting error in the state's finances, Sen. Larry Grooms is calling for SC Treasurer Curtis Loftis to be removed from office. Grooms made the statement on the floor of the SC Senate Wednesday afternoon. It all ties back to March 2024, when the SC Comptroller General's office reported nearly $1.9B in a bank account that appeared to be slowly collecting money over the span of several years.
