BEVERLY — Miranda Winters was supposed to be enjoying herself last summer. The singer and guitarist for the excellent tempo- and time-signature-warping Chicago rock outfit Melkbelly had recorded her debut album, “Lawn Girl,” under her solo moniker, Mandy. It should have been a time for celebration. Instead, she had a vocal hemorrhage.

LAKEVIEW – If you want to hear the sound of Chicago and all its wilds and wonders, filtered through the sound of a passionate, leave-it-all-on-stage rock band, give Friko a listen. The three-piece, made up of singer-guitarist Niko Kapetan and drummer Bailey Minzenberger (original bassist Luke Stamos quit last year, with band friend David Fuller filling in for now) remains admirably committed to the idea of being a “Chicago” band. “I love the whole bands-associated-with-a-city thing,” Kapetan said.

Chemistry is perhaps the most elusive of all cinematic ingredients. Critics can point to craft in elements like directorial technique, set design, editing, and the rest; great acting can be taught, and recognized as such. But chemistry is out of everyone’s hands. Either people have it with one another or they don’t. Until you get two people together and watch the sparks fly, it’s a complete X factor. But to take that essential romantic ingredient and add comedy on top of it?

Robert William Barker, better known as Bob Barker, the longtime host of daytime game show The Price Is Right and animal-welfare advocate, has died. Per Variety, the news was confirmed today by his publicist. Barker was 99Surprisingly, there won't be any Elvis songs in "Priscilla"Barker was born in Darrington, Washington in 1923 but spent most of his childhood living on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in Mission, South Dakota, as an enrolled member of the Sioux tribe.
