For the second year in a row, Mayo and St. Charles raised money with a softball triangular for the Rochester Flyers Special Olympics Team, an organization that serves more than 300 athletes with intellectual disabilities, ages 8 and older, in southeastern Minnesota.

    PINE ISLAND — Andrew Bowman walked over to the La Crescent-Hokah girls flag football team after the Lancers put it on his Pine Island squad to cap Week 1 of the Minnesota Vikings-backed league. Bowman was impressed, to say the least. "You guys are the team we are trying to be," Bowman told the Lancers. "Great compliment," said Lancers' coach Terry Donovan, who also coaches the boys football team in the fall.

    ROCHESTER — As Makenna Red Hill collected swings and misses left and right against crosstown rival Mayo, her sister and catcher, Aubrynn, couldn't help but smile. Aubrynn had seen this version of her older sis before, whether in the backyard or at the local diamond near their house. But this was about as locked in as Makenna had been when sporting John Marshall across her chest. "This was one of her best ones for JM," said the freshman Aubrynn.
