Avery Steffen, Minnesota State-Moorhead Due to an ankle injury, the 2021 Post Bulletin Player of the Year had her season cut short after eight games last year. But the Zumbrota-Mazeppa grad's senior season is off and running. She has been lethal at the plate, hitting .358 (44-for-123) while leading the team in doubles (8), triples (4) and hits (44). In the circle, Steffen is 4-8 with a 4.95 ERA in 18 appearances —10 starts. She has 68 strikeouts in 65 innings tossed so far.

ROCHESTER — Kaleigh Zollner admits sports have always been in her blood. A graduate of Tomah High School in Wisconsin, Zollner is the daughter of longtime Tomah athletic director Tom Curran and has been an avid Green Bay Packers fan since Day 1. As a middle schooler, Zollner asked — or as she puts it "begged" — her father to let her play football. Unfortunately for Zollner, that was quickly shut down. But she acknowledges it was probably the right call at the time.

ROCHESTER — The Mayo High School football team is back in Class 5A. Both Mayo activities director Dan Christoffer and Mayo football coach Donny Holcomb confirmed the news to the Post Bulletin Monday. The Spartans had been playing in 6A — the state's largest class — the last two seasons after the previous realignment two years ago had bumped them up. This came on the heels of back-to-back Section 1, Class 5A titles. Mayo had been in Class 5A since the MSHSL expanded football to six classes.
