EAST LYME - Police Chief Michael Finkelstein violated 13 of his department's "general orders," according to a lawyer hired to investigate violations related to family violence allegations against the chief. The violations outlined in the 139-page report by lawyer Eric P. Daigle included several related to a sexual relationship Finkelstein had with a female subordinate, the documents show. The violations included Finkelstein falsely denying the relationship, the report said.

NEW BRITAIN - A judge on Tuesday reduced the sentence of a Connecticut woman who was convicted of encouraging her lover to kill her husband - and helping him do it - from 60 years to 40 years. Judge Chris Pelosi granted the sentence reduction to Nicole Pelletier, 64, who lived in Plymouth with her husband, Olidor Pelletier, when her co-worker and lover, Jose Rubert, used a baseball bat to kill him in the couple's home on Oct. 2, 1989.

NEW BRITAIN - The next time Shannon Sherry appears in court, the Norwalk police sergeant will have to either accept or reject a plea deal in a case in which he is facing a felony charge in an off-duty 2023 crash that killed a driver on Interstate 84. In state Superior Court in New Britain Tuesday morning, Judge Sheila M. Prats granted the defense's request to continue the case.

HARTFORD - A state Appellate Court decision requires the Torrington Police Department to reinstate Sgt. Gerald "Jay" Peters, who was fired over a 2020 incident in which he pepper-sprayed a handcuffed man. The decision, by a unanimous three-judge panel, reverses a 2023 decision by Judge Ann E.
