Thursday, May 8th, Girls Inc. of the Valley will join forces with 50 Girls Inc. affiliates across the country and Canada for a special day of online giving. The purpose of this ‘Girls Inc Together’ initiative is to celebrate youth leadership and raise critical funds to help all girls become strong, smart, and bold.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Craft cocktails for a good cause brought out dozens to the Student Prince in Springfield. Community leaders turned into celebrity bartenders Wednesday night, raising funds to support young people on their journey to adulthood. One hundred percent of tips made will benefit the Scouting America, Western Massachusetts Council. A portion of food sales benefited this cause as well.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The basketball court at Springfield Central High School will soon bear the name of a local sports legend. The Springfield School Committee unanimously voted last week to rename the court after Travis Best, who was a point guard graduated from Central back in 1991. He went on to play for Georgia Tech and was a first-round pick in the 1995 NBA draft, playing 10 seasons in the league.

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – A new poll by UMass Amherst found that Massachusetts residents continue to support the ‘Right To Shelter’ law. The poll found that 6 in 10 Massachusetts residents support the law. But it also shows that the majority support proposals that would place limits and requirements on the system that provides emergency shelter to migrants, asylum seekers, and refugees in the Bay State. This comes after criticism over state spending on shelters.
