Teen killed after he was shot multiple times in Jackson

An 18-year-old is dead following a shooting in Jackson. Jackson police said they responded to the shooting around 4:30 p.m. Friday on Fairfax Avenue. According to Detective Tommie Brown, when officers arrived on scene, they found 18-year-old Samuel Taylor with multiple gunshot wounds to his body. Brown said Taylor succumbed to his injuries. Prior to Taylors death, police said they were dispatched to a shooting on Chadwick Drive where several apartments were hit with gunfire.
JPD investigating after body found in the back seat of a burned vehicle

Jackson police are investigating after a body was discovered in the back of a burned vehicle on Glen Erin Street.Detective Tommie Brown said the vehicle was found burning this morning. Jackson Firefighters responded to the scene and put out the fire. Brown said the vehicle, a 2009 Honda Accord, was completely burned. While evaluating the vehicle, Brown said firefighters discovered the body.The victim has not yet been identified.
Jackson police confirm multiple people injured in barbershop shooting

Jackson police are investigating a shooting at a barbershop in West Jackson that left multiple people injured.According to Detective Tommie Brown, the shooting took place on Robinson Road at Kerron's Kutz.Brown said detectives are interviewing witnesses and victims at the hospital. The number of people injured and their conditions, have not yet been released.

The Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is raising awareness about their toy drive collection. According to Mississippi area coordinators, the mission of the program is to collect new unwrapped toys and distribute those toys to economically disadvantaged children at Christmas.Coordinators said they try to distribute one toy per child but would like to do more if more people donate to the cause.
McComb police chief Juan Cloy placed on administrative leave

The Mayor of McComb has confirmed that his chief of police, Juan Cloy is on administrative leave pending an investigation.According to Mayor Quordiniah Lockley, Chief Juan Cloy was place on leave following an officer-involved shooting that left a 16-year-old dead. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation said the shooting happened November 14 near 212 25th Street.
Man shot while attempting to help check stalled vehicle in Jackson

Jackson police said they are looking for a suspect they said opened fire on a man while he was checking underneath the hood a stalled vehicle on State Street at Beasley Road. Police said the victim told detectives that he was attempting to help someone with the vehicle when the vehicle stopped in the street. The victim said as he was checking underneath the hood, he was approached by an unknown male who questioned him and then shot him.
Suspects use sledgehammer to burglarize business in Jackson

The Jackson Police Department is looking for three suspects accused of using a sledgehammer to burglarize a gas station.Detective Tommie Brown said the incident happened Wednesday morning at Fleetwood Gas Station on Watkins Drive. According to Brown, the suspects used a sledgehammer to knock holes into the back of the business before stealing tobacco products.Police said the suspects left the scene in a silver van.
Hazmat crews clearing cooking oil spill on Highway 80 in Richland

Richland police officers are working to clear a cooking oil spill on Highway 80 and Old Highway 49.The public information officer for the police department, Allison McDonald, said the crash happened shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday. McDonald said the driver of the truck was entrapped and later freed from the wreck with minor injuries. The cause of the crash is under investigation. McDonald said hazmat crews are working to clear the oil from the area.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol has blocked all lanes north and southbound on I-55 near Byram due to an 18-wheeler wreck.Trooper Darnika Mayfield said the wreck happening in the area near Wynndale Road after an 18-wheeler and van collided with each other.MHP said there were no injuries for the van's occupants or the 18-wheeler driver.MHP said the lanes will be closed as crews facilitate emergency response and clearance operations.
New bar coming to Belhaven soon

A new bar is coming to the Belhaven Historic District in Jackson. Chaz Lindsay, the owner of Italian restaurant Pulito Osteria in Belhaven Town Center, in the old District Donuts.District Donuts closed in January. Lindsay said he is in the process of reworking the inside of the old District Donuts with a new bar, TVs, new cooking equipment and tables.Lindsay said the new bar, which will be named Rowan's, is expected to open the second week of December.
