WJTV-TV (Jackson, MS)

WJTV began broadcasting on January 20, 1953, marking it as the first television station in Mississippi. It transmitted an analog signal on UHF channel 25 and was established by The Clarion-Ledger, the morning newspaper in Jackson. Shortly after, the afternoon publication, the Jackson Daily News, launched WSLI on channel 12. Initially, WJTV served as a primary NBC affiliate and also had a secondary connection with the DuMont Television Network, while WSLI was affiliated with CBS. When WJBT (now WLBT) started broadcasting on channel 3, WJTV lost its NBC affiliation but continued to share ABC programming with channel 3, alongside airing DuMont content.
