I spoke with Wins as he was signing his last diplomas as the VMI Superintendent.

BLACKSBURG, Va. (WSET) — Some Virginia Tech graduates may find themselves impacted by the recent federal hiring freeze, according to the university's spokesperson, Mark Owczarski. President Trump has extended the hiring freeze through July 15, which will result in the rollback of some internships and employment opportunities. "This is the time of year all of the graduates are looking for jobs," Owczarski said.

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — New details have emerged from warrants regarding the arrest of Florin Doroiman, who is facing over 20 charges related to a series of skimming incidents across at least six localities. According to the warrants, Doroiman claimed he received money from a Chinese man to install skimming devices on card readers. However, he said he was not aware of the potential consequences. On February 26, a skimmer was discovered at a Walmart on Wards Road.

Agencies found skimming devices on Walmart card readers across our region earlier this year. AMHERST COUNTY, Va. (WSET) — A jury in Amherst County has found Frederick Wiggington guilty of first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Elsie Wiggington. The jury reached its verdict after deliberating for just over an hour. Elsie Wiggington went missing in June 2023, and her remains were discovered more than a year later, buried under a concrete slab. Her family expressed relief at the verdict, despite the emotional toll of the trial.

AMHERST COUNTY. Va (WSET) — The Amherst County Commonwealth finished presenting its evidence in the case against the man charged with killing his wife and burying her remains under a cement slab on their property on Friday. Frederick Wiggington’s defense did not present any evidence afterwards. The defense argues that there is a lack of evidence showing that Fred killed Elsie Wiggington and the case is circumstantial.
