The small northern New York community of Chazy came together Wednesday night to remember Kennedy Columbus. She was tragically killed last Friday when a tree fell on her car. The Chazy softball field was filled with flowers, softballs and mementos brought there by family, friends and classmates. Columbus was set to graduate this week. On the field where she shone, hundreds remembered Columbus as a hardworking, passionate person.

The forecasted extreme heat is forcing the Beekmantown Central School District to shift to a half-day schedule on Monday and Tuesday. According to an alert sent to families, middle and high school students will be dismissed at 10:30 a.m. Elementary students will get out at 11:30 a.m.The alert says the decision was made with the safety and well-being of students and staff in mind.

Vermont State Police are investigating a shooting in the town of Berkshire in Franklin County. According to police, they received a report of a shooting at home on Vermont Route 118 just after 5 p.m. Sunday. The number of people shot and the extent of any injuries are under investigation. No one is in custody. Anyone with information is asked to call the Saint Albans barracks at (802) 524-5993. You can also anonymously submit a tip here. It's officially summer, and for many businesses, that means the start of one of their busiest times of year. However, Winooski businesses are frustrated by ongoing construction. "It's put us off about 20 to 22 percent," said the owner of Junior's, Glenn Patterson. A torn-up road and construction equipment are right outside the front door of the restaurant. Patterson said he hasn't had to make cuts yet. "I may have to cut hours. We'll see," said Patterson. "On the weekdays, there's a significant impact.
