DiscussionWe evaluated the association of 46 circulating cytokines with incident AF using multiplex techniques in this proteomics approach. Elevated levels of MIP-1β, HGF, CRP and NT-proBNP initially were related to incident AF. However, more refined risk factor-adjusted analyses did not reveal any other biomarker to predict the development of AF besides NT-proBNP.
