Think of it less as a supper club, more as a leisurely “series of dinner parties” set by a husband-and-wife team of chef and college professor.  The former is Ian Moroney, previously co-owner and chef of Pumpkin, the South Street BYOB which ended an almost 20-year run this August. The latter is Sharon Thompson-Schill, a neuroscience professor at Penn and a staple on the city’s dining scene/dubbed the city’s “most enthusiastic diner” by the Inquirer.

Philly Bookstore Crawl returns for its second year this Saturday, bringing discounts, giveaways, and author-led events to 40 small businesses throughout the Philadelphia area. “It’s sort of run like a gigantic First Friday,” Eric Smith, the 42-year-old literary agent, author, and organizer of the crawl, told Billy Penn. There’s no set route to travel along, and in-store events vary across locations (scroll down for a full list of participating businesses and what they’re offering).

The map of Philly’s Ethiopian cuisine scene has gotten a recent border expansion with Guzo Café, on 12th and Catherine streets. Now in its third week, the 42-seat corner spot — including 10 seats at five outdoor tables — offers a daily selection of standard café fare, with espresso using beans from Fair Trade-sourced, worker-owned Equal Exchange, pastries from West Philly’s Four Worlds bakery, and house-made eats like lox bagels, avocado toast, and tuna and veggie sandwiches.
