The sunshine drew crowds across the neighbourhood’s showrooms and venues – including three atmospheric new additions: the 14th-century Charterhouse, a new event space in Smithfield Market, and the medieval St Bartholomew’s Church, which has been dubbed ‘Church of Design’ for the occasion.

At first glance, London's Gallery Fumi appears to have been filled with a set of carved granite furnishings – monolithic stools, consoles and benches arranged like the scattered remnants of a classical ruin. The experimental designs of the 1960s and 70s have been enjoying something of a resurgence in recent years. At Milan Design Week 2025 last month, we saw conversation pits, exhibitions and talks staged in beds, low-slung seating, high-gloss surfaces and deep pile carpets – in fact, all manner of carpets. The proliferation had us reflecting on what it is about this era that continues to appeal, some 50 years later.

Shaded from the Balearic sun by lengths of golden yellow fabric that flutter like fiesta flags against a cloudless sky, the terrace restaurant at Hotel Corazón – recently redesigned by Tatjana von Stein – shows how thoughtful design can quietly transform a space. Though only completed this spring, it feels as if it’s always been this way, evoking a laid-back informality that instantly puts you at ease. The sweeping views of the Tramuntana mountains don’t hurt, either.
