An apology has gone a long way in the case of one town councillor whose sanctions are set to be removed after his foul-mouthed outburst. Cllr Jim Rockett, of Fakenham Town Council, was banned from various committee positions by North Norfolk District Council back in December following an incident which saw him dubbed “Rocketman”. However, his full status is set to be reinstated and his duties restored at the next town council meeting on June 25.

Police have arrested six people following four simultaneous drug raids in town. Officers burst into the properties in and around Bunnet Avenue, in South Lynn, just before 7am yesterday morning. Charlie, a police dog, assisted teams - and a “significant quantity” of Class A drugs and cash were found and seized. All six people have been taken to Lynn’s Police Investigation Centre for questioning. A spokesperson for Norfolk Police declined to reveal details on the substances which were discovered.

None of the five suspects in the potential murder of a Lynn man have been charged as investigations continue. Maris Ile, a 54-year-old Lativian national who lived on Highgate, has been missing since November and is believed by police to have been murdered. The four men and a woman who were arrested in connection with the case back in March and originally bailed until June 11, have now been rebailed until September 11.

Police will get free bus travel across Cambridgeshire under an operator’s initiative. Stagecoach is letting those in the force onto its vehicles for free when they present their ID badge or warrant card. It comes as part of the company’s commitment to building a strong relationship with officers. Residents are “very excited” about the opening of a new parish hall after its old one had “fallen apart”. Construction of Walpole St Peter’s new facility has finished, and it will be ready to welcome villagers with cake and food at a celebration ceremony on Friday, June 27. Its former hall had stood for a century, but calls for an upgrade came in before lockdown after a survey revealed that it was “beyond viable repair”.
