Police officers have awarded parking tickets to illegal parkers across two Fenland towns. A number of drivers in Whittlesey and March were spotted parking in disabled bays, on double yellow lines and single yellow lines during hours of operation. A total of ten parking tickets have been issued by officers in the past couple of weeks. Police especially targeted areas, including Whittlesey’s Park Lane Primary School and Coates Primary School, during drop-off and pick-up times.

A man has been sentenced to 30 weeks in prison for theft and assault offences in places including Wisbech. Andrew Yallop appeared at King’s Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, where he admitted a total of nine offences and was sentenced to 30 weeks in prison. His crimes included shoplifting, stealing a Mercedes and assaulting a police officer. On April 7, Yallop, previously of the Grove in Lynn, stole the keys of a Mercedes parked on Old Market Street in Wisbech.

Police are being made aware of a concern over drugs raised at the latest Chatteris Town Council meeting. On Tuesday evening, Cllr Matthew Siggee brought up concerns of drug dealing going on in the town. He said: “There have been reports made of drug dealing going on with a white transit van in Chatteris.”Chatteris Town Council. The new mayor and deputy for Chatteris have been chosen at the town council’s latest meeting. At Tuesday evening’s meeting, Cllr Linda Ashley was selected to take on the role of mayor with Cllr Sharon Selman acting as deputy. This comes after councillors nominated who they wanted to replace the current mayor, Cllr Anne Hay, and her consort Cllr Ian Benney, who have served for the last two years. The pair received the majority of the votes and have started their new positions.

A HGV driver said that getting caught with cannabis has made him halt his drug habit. Adam Lochore, of Bridge Road in Sutton Bridge, appeared at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, where he admitted having a class B drug in his possession. On October 11 last year, Lochore was pulled over in an HGV lorry in Essex for unrelated motoring matters. Police searched Lochore and found three rolled joints of cannabis on him.
